The Special Steps program provides mobile individuals diagnosed with Dementia, such as Alzheimer's Disease (AD) who are living independently in the community with activity and companionship. Participants are matched on a one-to-one basis depending on the needs of the individual/caregiver. Volunteers offer support and friendship to the individual through ongoing regularly scheduled walks in the community whether indoor walking facilities or outdoor (weather permitting) or sit down visits.

Volunteers are screened and trained. The volunteer cannot do medication reminders, complete any personal care tasks, complete any housekeeping tasks, drive the individual's car or be a passenger in the individual's car.
